This route is truly historic – the track is vintage and the rustic station is beautifully restored. The cars, however, are the most modern obtainable with expanses of glass offering unimpeded views of land that has given rise to song.  Pike Peak Cog Railway is the highest train in the United States, and the three -hour trip brings you 14,110 feet up to the wind-swept summit of Pikes Peek. Here, it’s easy to see how Katharine Lee Bates found the words for her patriotic masterpieces, “America the Beutiful.” From this vantage, the fields realy are amber and the mountains purple and majestic. See for your self. And don’t forget to wave at the marmots on the way down.
