Georgetown loop

Originally begun in 1872, the Georgetown loop ultimately spanned from denver to idaho springs. The operation of the original loop ended in 1938, with the line abandoned and dismantled. The restored line in use today began in 1969 and was open for full use in 1984. The  restoration includes the engineering advances that allowed the railroad to scale height thought to be impassible for railroads of the day. Nevertheless, passangers are enjoying the unequaled scenery along this section of track, including Devil’s Gate High Bridge, as they did in 1879.
